Introduction

Wanscam network cameras are usually compatible with CameraFTP cloud recording service. Please note Wanscam is different from Wansview. In general, we believe Wansview is better suited for cloud recording than Wanscam. The camera model JW0004 that we tested is a little old and can only support 640x480 image recording. Newer models might have added H.264 video recording feature.

Note: This document is not designed to replace the product manual from the manufacturer. The information provided is based on our knowledge of the models Wanscam JW0004 Cameras. It may not be accurate or completely up-to-date. Users shall contact the manufacturer for all camera-related issues and contact us only for CameraFTP-related (cloud service / FTP) issues.

Most of the setup steps below are camera related and are very trivial. If you have finished these basic steps before, then you can skip Steps 1 and 2.

Step 1: Connect camera to the network and find IP address

1.1 Connect camera to the network

If you want to use wired connection, you just need to connect the Ethernet cable. Otherwise, there are several ways to connect the IP camera to your Wi-Fi network. Please read the product manual for detailed instructions.

(1) You can connect the camera with the router using an Ethernet cable first. You can configure the Wi-Fi settings in the camera's configuration pages later.

1.2 Find the Camera’s IP Address

Please refer to the manufacturer’s manual for more detailed information. Usually you will run the included IP Camera Search Tool to find the camera. If your computer does not have a DVD/CD drive, then you can download CameraFTP VSS software to find the camera's IP address. ( After you find the camera's IP address, you can stop / uninstall VSS. Note: This camera is compatible with VSS-based Cloud Recording. You can use VSS as a cloud-enabled NVR, which requires a PC. )

For CameraFTP VSS to locate this camera, you must manually enter the port number 99. New model cameras probably have supported ONVIF.

Step 2: Configure the Camera Using the Web-based Configuration Tool

Most IP cameras don't support Chrome, incl. this camera. So please download Firefox web browser if you don't have it already. Launch Firefox, and visit:

http://IP_ADDRESS:99/(e.g. http://192.168.1.2)

The default username is admin, and password is admin. (It is recommended that you change the password.)

After you log on to the camera, please install the Plug-in:

Click 'Sign in', it will display the live view screen:

Click Setup, you will see the Setup Main screen.

With CameraFTP's service, most regular setup steps are not required. (You can check these steps in the Camera Configuration screen to make sure everything is configured correctly).

2.1 Setup or Re-configure Wi-Fi

If you had already connected the camera with your wireless router, then skip this step.

Otherwise, click 'Wireless Lan Settings', you will see the screen below.

Click Scan to find all available Wi-Fi routers, then select a router to connect. You will be asked to enter the wireless password, after done, click Save.

If Wi-Fi is configured successfully, you can unplug your network cable later.

Step 3. Configure the FTP settings

Click FTP Service Settings, you can enter the FTP information as shown in the screenshot below.

If you don't already have an account on CameraFTP, please visit www.cameraftp.com and sign up a free trial account. CameraFTP offers 3-day free trial. When the trial ends, you will need to order a subscription to continue using the service.

Assuming you already have a CameraFTP Account, then you need to enter the following info:

FTP Server: ftp.cameraftp.com
Port: 21
FTP Mode: PASV (This camera uses PASV by default. No configuration is needed)
FTP Path: This camera does not support FTP Path. So FTP path info must be provided in the username or license key.
Username and Password:
You can use the camera license key as the password; otherwise, you need to change the username to: USERNAME:Dfoldername

Note: If you use the camera license key as the password, you must add a camera from www.cameraftp.com first, then assign a license key to the newly created camera. Otherwise, you can use USERNAME:Dfoldername as the username. 'foldername' is the same as the camera name that you created on www.CameraFTP.com website when you added a new camera.

Click Submit to save the settings. After that, you need to configure the video / image resolution.

Step 4. Configure Image Recording Options

If you ordered a motion triggered image recording plan, then you should configure Alarm Service Settings to upload images to FTP server. You need to check Motion Detect Armed, set motion sensitivity and Alarm Arming Time (set the schedule, usually 'Select all'. You also need to select an alarm interval.
The upload interval should be set based on your susbcription level. This camera can upload at 1 image/s or lower frequency.

For continuous image recording, you can set an upload interval in the FTP Settings screen based on your susbcription level. Please don't set both continuous and motion triggered recording options.

Click Save to save the change.

NOTE: Please do not configure both video recording and image recording. It will be considered as two camera licenses!

THEATRICAL DISTRIBUTION
“Negotiate The Deal””
You are nothing without a distributor! And, every chapter up until now has been involved with taking the idea-dream that is in your head, making it into a real 90-minute narrative film and getting some awards at film festivals. But, you are still nothing without a distributor.
WARNING: This chapter will be a “Bummer”. All the positive energy I created, by demystifying Hollywood, will be instantly forgotten once you realize how distributors screw first-time filmmakers. However, don’t be depressed. For once I give you the realistic information, then I’ll show you how to obtain a distributor with a deal that allows you a profit. But first, let me depress you.
I’m sure you’ve heard that distributors are sharks who prey on naïve first-timers. It’s true! But, I don’t like this analogy for it reeks of the pity-pot and the poor-me syndrome. To me distributors are more comparable to attorneys. Everyone hates them. Everyone has an attorney joke. But, like it or not, we needs attorneys. And, like it or not, you need a distributor.
WHY YOU NEED A DISTRIBUTOR?
There are two reasons why you need a distributor: First, they have the P&A money to make your film into a movie. YOU DON’T! Second, they have the ability to collect from theater owners. YOU DON’T!
Distributors, middlemen between filmmakers and exhibitors, take your product, create an advertising campaign, place newspaper ads, set up interviews, strike prints, book theaters, freight prints, make your film into a movie and oversee the collection and distribution of revenues.
A distributor, with three to thirty films/year, has the power to collect from theater owners because they want the distributor’s next film. You only have one film. Attempt self-distribution and you’ll spend your entire life in small claims court trying to collect from each and every theater owner. Therefore, it is imperative to have a distributor who can collect --Your problem then becomes collecting from the distributor.
Remember, marketing a film most times costs more than making the film. Thus, the P&A money is imperative. Without it your film is only a film. And, remember, no one buys films. You ain’t got any P&A money, you barely had enough money to make the film and attend a festival. But the distributor does. And, (SECRET) He who has the P&A money has the power…and distributors have P&A money.”
THE BASIC DISTRIBUTION DEAL
Let’s assume you’ve done everything right. You got a great script. Picked the right actors. Shot on-budget. Entered the proper festival. Audiences came. You won an award and are talking with distributors.
The deal you’ll be offered 19 out of 20 times is called “The Standard Distribution Deal” which, on the surface sounds fair. This is what distributors claim everyone gets for his first film. Don’t believe them! The deal will appear equitable, but it isn’t. The distributor will offer it by saying: 'I love your film. Let's partner. I'll distribute, take my standard distribution fee, recoup expenses, and split 50-50 with you.”
It is technically called the “50-50 Net Deal” (aka: Standard Distribution Deal) and you’ll never see a penny. Let’s take a deeper look at what the distributor is really saying with, “Let’s partner, I’ll distribute, take my standard fee, recoup my expenses and split profits 50-50 with you”.
A. LET’S PARTNER: “You pay for the film. We collect the revenues.”
B. I’LL DISTRIBUTE: “We make all decisions and stay in control”
C. STANDARD FEE: “Our standard fee is as much as we can get”
D. RECOUP EXPENSES: “That pied-a-terre in NY, Condo in Gastaad, hooker in LA, etc.”
E. PROFIT SPLIT: “50% of nothing is nothing.”

Assume you pitch an idea to a distributor and get $1,000,000 to make the film. Once it’s done the distributor agrees to put $3,000,000 into a P&A campaign and on the opening weekend the film grosses $10,000,000. Wow! Don’t count your chickens. Thirty days after the $10,000,000 weekend you get an accounting statement showing that your film is losing $3,000,000. Your jaws drop. You’re astonished. You ponder, “How can this be?”
Simple, here’s how: Assuming you accepted a Standard (50-50 Net) Distribution Deal with the production money. The good news is that on its first weekend of release your film grossed $10,000,000. It’s a hit. This is great, but remember that the word gross is not the word profit and you split profits not grosses. And the accounting statement you receive will look like this…

Gross, specifically box office gross, refers to the money theater owners collect from audiences. Now, distributors, being the marketing geniuses they are, know that many people didn’t see your film this weekend. So how do they get them to see your film on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc? The answer is, they market what the film grossed. Not what the film profited or lost. This is because the gross dollar amount is always a large number. Ask yourself. What would you rather see, a film that grossed $10,000,000 or a film that lost $3,000,000?
Let’s follow the money trail and discover how a $10,000,000 grosser becomes a $3,000,000 loser. First, the theater owner collects the $10,000,000 (not the distributor) and takes his cut (usually 50%) of the Box Office Gross and sends the remaining money, now called Distributors Gross, to the distributor who has paid for all the prints and ads. Your $10,000,000 Box Office Gross has just become a $5,000,000 Distributor’s Gross.
The distributor now deducts 35% ($1,750,000) for his distribution fee from the $5,000,000 leaving a $3,250,000 Producer’s Gross.
Next, remember, if the distributor gave you $1,000,000 to make the film. They want that money back. Actually distributors don’t give you money, they loan it to you and want their loan back --with interest that is usually at 25%. Now, deducting the loan ($1,000,000), typically called a Production Expense and interest ($250,000), from the Producers Gross leaves $2,000,000. The number is getting smaller and smaller and…
Next, the distributor recoups his $3,000,000 P&A costs. Subtract a $3,000,000 expense, from a $2,000,000 gross and there is no form of new math that will show a profit. Your film is now at $1,000,000 in losses. Add to the $1,000,000 in losses $2,000,000 in distributor’s overhead and your film is now at $3,000,000 in losses. I told you this chapter would be a bummer.
LET’S GET REAL
Directors and/or producers are like architects in the real estate world. Builders option a property (idea/story), hire an architect (writer), get the blueprints (scripts) and construct (direct/produce) the building. When the building is done, the builder (distributor) sells and if there’s a profit do you think an architect expects to split 50-50 with the builder? No way! Not even IM Pei or Frank Gehry, world famous architects, expect to participate in profits. They are happy to be well paid employees.
If you get funding from a distributor to make a film, be happy. Stop being naïve. Don’t expect profits. Be happy with the funding, the excellent salary, the celebrity exposure and the ability to launch your career. But don’t expect profits – you never took any financial gambles.

**Latest Tarzan Dangles from a Vine of Pointless Indifference**

The good news in regards to director David Yates’ (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) African adventure The Legend of Tarzan is that it doesn’t spend a heck of a lot of time going through the famous character’s backstory. Instead, screenwriters Adam Cozad (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan) make the assumption most, even if they’ve never read any of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novels or have seen any of the countless cinematic incarnations (ranging from Johnny Weissmuller, to Christopher Lambert, to an animated Disney version, to numerous additional takes in-between), already know who Tarzan is and what it was that made him that way. While flashbacks to the death of his parents and his being raised by a pod of apes are present, by and large the writers allows the viewer to fill in the blanks all on their own, thus making sure the bulk of the tale’s running time is spent on the central story at hand and precious little else.

While technical aspects are strong, especially as they pertain to the motion capture effects utilized to bring the African beasts running through the jungle to life, sadly this is the end of the good news. Even though Yates is able to stage some solid chase sequences, while Henry Braham’s (Nanny McPhee) cinematography is lush and electrifyingly alive, none of this is enough to compensate for just how unremarkable this adventure proves to be. Anemically by-the-numbers, blandly plotted to the point excitement becomes nothing less than an endangered species, watching this movie is a shockingly dull way to spend a couple of hours, and I have trouble believing even if I’d seen it as a child I still would have cared whether or not this Lord of the Apes would save his lady-love while also making sure his beloved Africa was not destroyed by unscrupulous European invaders.

British Lord John Clayton (Alexander Skarsgård), known the world over as Tarzan, is invited by Belgian King Leopold II to revisit his former home in the African Congo, ostensibly to see all of the good his regime is claiming to be doing there. But American George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson) believes otherwise, convincing Clayton it is worthwhile to return to the place of his birth and see what is happening to the indigenous peoples residing there for himself.

So with wife Jane (Margot Robbie) joining them, the two men set out on this adventure. But things are far from what they’ve been told, the dastardly mercenary Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz) fooling Clayton with an offer from King Leopold in order to fulfill a bargain with warlord Chief Mbonga (Djimon Hounsou). His people rule a secluded land sitting on top of a gigantic diamond mine, and in order for him to grant the Belgians access to it he wants Tarzan’s head on a spike. Rom intends to give it to him, and in doing so unleash a terrible genocidal plague across the African continent the likes of which the world has never seen before.

That all actually has the makings for a pretty solid adventure, and one I’d like to think Yates is more than capable of bringing to life. But the movie never finds its dramatic feet, lurching around uncomfortably as it desperately tries to romanticize its Caucasian hero without belittling or marginalizing the Africans, whose continent it obviously is, in the process. Yet this line proves to be impossible for the filmmaker or his screenwriters to be able to walk upon, and even by adding Jackson to the mix as an American haunted by his days hunting Native Americans in the western frontier, the story’s inherent “White Savior” problem still bites them all in the butt all the same.

Even so, that’s not the most obnoxious or glaring issue. The simple truth here is, The Legend of Tarzan just isn’t any fun. It’s all just so mundane and pedestrian, maintaining interest for anything longer than a couple of minutes proves to be an almost insurmountable chore. If I’d have been at home watching this play out on television it is likely I’d have either turned the channel or fallen asleep, the latter the more likely outcome. The story wanders around with little to no urgency, and even after Rom gets his hands on Jane in order to trick Tarzan into saving her, I honestly could have cared less if the two jungle love birds ever got back intertwined within one another’s loving arms.

Skarsgård looks terrific, his abs doing almost all of his talking for him, and Jackson is in fine, if familiar, form as his new compatriot tromping through the jungle right alongside him. Robbie is maybe the best of the central trio, adding a spunky, energetic element to the proceedings that’s absent whenever she isn’t around. Problem is, even though her character proclaims herself to be anything but a damsel in distress that is exactly what Jane turns out to be, Tarzan’s beloved pretty nothing more than fetching eye-candy he has to go to ever-greater extremes in order to save.

It does not help that Waltz, for all his talent and charm, phones in his villain, and other than a couple of novel turns of phrase that almost feel as if they were lifted from Django Unchained or Inglourious Basterds, the majority of the time he looks incredibly bored. Which is more than can be said for Hounsou, the two-time Academy Award-nominee once again stranded with a one-dimensional heavy that’s as stereotypical as it is a waste of talent. The actor deserves better, no question, and the fact Hollywood seemingly refuses to make good use of him is a travesty of monumental proportions.

There is a pretty good fight between Tarzan and one of his simian family members; and a flashback showcasing what happened to his mother while he was still a young man learning the ways of the jungle is overflowing in the kind of emotional maturity and intimate complexities the rest of the picture is sadly lacking in. But the final battle itself is a shocking letdown, a sound and fury onslaught that represents nothing long-lasting or substantive.
